Background : The aim of this study was to value the performance of a modified commercially available stretched polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) vascular Gore graft in stenotic arterovenous grafts (AVG) for hemodialysis, valuing the primary patency rate at 6 months.

Methods : 21 patients consecutively were underwent revision of AVG and 6 patients were implemented revision of AVG with graft extension technique due to outflow vein stenosis. Primary patency rate of these was evaluated at 6 months.

Results : In 21 patients with the modified grafts the cumulative primary patency rate of arterovenous grafts at 6 months was 74.3% with mortality of 0%. Valuing the overall combined primary patency rate of arterovenous grafts of the two groups (extension vs. unextension grafts) with Kaplan Meyer curve and Logrank test the difference was statistically unsignificant: p=0.57. On the contrary analyzing the two subgroups primary patency rates were 72% ad 50% at 6 months.

Conclusion : The preliminary results of extended stretch ePTFE vascular graft were useful to revise the vascular access graft.
